Created in 2006 in Roudham, in the heart of Norfolk, The English is the brand with which in recent years St George's Distillery has revived the tradition of English whiskey. However, this strong territorial identity did not prevent him from having important relationships with his Scottish cousins: their first master distiller was in fact Ian Henderson, formerly of Laphroaig, and many of their malts come from beyond Hadrian's Wall.

Released in April 2019 in a limited edition, this Virgin Oak Cask is however a completely new project: dedicated to St. George, patron saint of England, this whiskey was made with native 2013 malt aged for six years in virgin oak barrels American white. Only 2689 bottles were made without filtration and the addition of dyes. Alcohol level of 46%.
excellent aromatic intensity with toasted hints of dried fruit, candied ginger, date, and cumin. The virgin wood is very present with a strong vanilla character, but it is never intrusive. Balanced alcoholic note.
soft entry of almond cream and vanilla fruit, followed by more intense notes of nutmeg and cocoa toffee. Sweetness is balanced in the decisive warmth of alcohol that fills the palate.
excellent spicy and spicy finish that incorporates dried fruit and adds notes of black pepper and cocoa bean. Warm, intense, and satisfying.
This Virgin Oak Cask is a welcome surprise. The virgin barrels are excellently managed in a balanced and intriguing product. The clean profile leaves no room for weaknesses and bodes well for future superior aging of this version. Recommended.
