Macallan unveiled the release of a new bottling in the Double Cask range, the Double Cask 30 Year. This “new” whisky is matured for 30 years and the aging happened in a combination of European oak, as well as new American oak. Casks were toasted before being filled with sherry and left to season for up to 18 months. Then the casks were filled with new-make spirit.
Kirsteen Campbell, the master whisky maker at The Macallan, said: “The Macallan Double Cask 30 Years Old is a modern take on our classic 30-year-old and is an exceptional aged single malt. With a rich combination and depth of flavor and a complex character, it is a whisky to be savored…It is the oak that gives the whisky its natural color and is the single greatest contributor to the quality, distinctive aromas, and flavors.”
The Macallan Double Cask 30 Year is bottled at 43% ABV, with no coloring added. Packaged in a solid oak presentation box, it’s available globally starting for an SRP of $4,000 (£3,000).
Macallan has collaborated with the American artist and photographer Erik Madigan Heck for this release. Heck stated “Nature lies at the heart of my work, and I was greatly inspired by the breath-taking natural landscape on The Macallan Estate…I also created a still life image featuring vibrant colors and varying textures to portray the whisky’s luscious flavors while natural light captures its depth of character.”
